Arm in Arm: The Ceremony Begins!

Everything had been set up just perfectly for the ceremony.  It was exactly how I imagined it, with our DIY programs and initials displayed in the foyer leading to the sanctuary…

…and the “reserved” signs I had made indicating where our families would be seated.

Naturally, I got to enjoy none of the guest ambiance while being quarantined in the hallway just outside the church foyer.  I knew I’d get to see everything all together soon, however, when the pianist started to play the selection I had chosen for the families to be escorted in to, “Sheep May Safely Graze” from J.S. Bach’s Cantata No. 208, and my heart skipped a beat when I realized I would be saying my vows in mere MINUTES!

First, Mr. A’s mom was escorted in, followed by my great-aunt and grandmas.

Our ushers are wearing awesome striped ties we gifted to them from Ties-Necktie. They coordinated perfectly with our wedding scheme and really popped against their white dress shirts. They looked awesome!

We had Mr. A’s grandma (Mr. A was raised by his grandparents) and my mom each light the tapered candles on either side of the unity candle as their way of contributing to the ceremony.  I think it was a great way to recognize them and allow them to be more involved so they felt extra special!

Mr. A’s grandma went first…

…followed by Mama Dillo.

And then, from my solace in the hallway, I could hear the music shift to the selection we’d made for our bridal party to enter to, “Le Cygne” from Le Carnaval des Animaux by Camille Saint-Saëns.

Our Pastor led Mr. A and the groomsmen out to the front of the sanctuary at the sound of the music change.

Doesn't our pastor look like Gene Hackman? Love it!

One by one, each of my ladies made their way down the aisle.

First came BM Dancer, looking lovely and statuesque as always.

She was followed by Li’l Dillo, who looks so grown-up in this picture to only be 13!

Due to BM Mascara’s daughter being an uncooperative flower girl, MOH Henna was next down the aisle.

BM Mascara came after, with our two flower girls in tow!

The smiles on all our guests’ faces in this picture convince me that having flower girls in our ceremony was TOTALLY WORTH IT.

After everyone had made their way into place, my dad came around the corner and gave me a mischievous grin.  “It’s showtime!” he exclaimed, and with a sigh of relief, I stepped back into my ruby slippers, lifted the front of my gown, and took my place in the foyer as our ushers closed the doors to the sanctuary in preparation for my grand entrance.

Up next, I take my turn down the aisle to the most perfect entrance song, and everybody CRIES!!!!!

Did you have uncooperative flower girls at your ceremony?  Did you have to roll with the punches to avoid some catastrophes? Did you choose to acknowledge your mothers in any special way during the ceremony or did you give them a way to be involved somehow?  Anyone elses’ officiant look like Gene Hackman?
